Augmented reality consists in adding virtual elements to the real environment which are called holograms and can be formed by copies of texts, sounds, objects that we normally find on a screen. We can interact with virtual objects just as we do in reality with real objects. To interact with them we need some accessories such as the Hololens which, together with the clicker, is able to detect hand gestures that are translated into input and used to move the holograms and also the voice commands. Then there is the hand-held, a device that is held in the hand such as a tablet or a smartphone, in fact, inside them, they have all the features and hardware components for an augmented reality experience: the video camera , sensors, processors, memory and screen.

Then there are wearable devices such as head-mounted displays that we can wear like glasses keeping our hands free. The technology of virtual reality systems also makes use of tracking systems. The more accurate these are in tracking, the more aligned virtual objects will be about the real world. Applications that use augmented reality require very low hardware requirements and still allow users to continue to be present in the real world. Born in the 60s, we can say that its widespread diffusion took place in 2016 through the Pokemon Go video game, which is one of the most successful virtual reality video games.

But the fields of application of augmented reality are not only in the gaming sector, a sector that is worth hundreds of billions of euros, but also in culture, tourism, companies, the military, and medicine. It happens in museums that when a picture or a work of art is framed with the smartphone camera, a description of the work itself arrives in text or audio form, giving added value and creating greater curiosity and attraction in visitors. Even the giant Google with its Maps application has introduced virtual reality, allowing us to frame the street where we are, with a very intuitive first-person view of the streets and with directions on where to go to reach a required destination. Even in schools, holograms are used, which are used by teachers to make teaching more engaging and allow pupils to have more stimuli from this type of lesson with an active learning role. In the field of industry, the technicians can remotely guide and direct the operations to be carried out and to be carried out by giving exact indications on what to do, and the same can also be done in the medical field for the rehabilitation of patients or the remote health care or telemedicine.
